Dublin Hammers - Christmas Party 2017

The Christmas Party - 2nd December 2017

In the words of Noddy Holder... IT’S CHRISTMASSSSS!!!!

That can only mean it’s time for the Dublin Hammers Christmas Party to kick off the festive season. As I arrived I found the room full with expectant party goers. There was a table of McNamaras that bridged the gap between Dublin and Cork along with a number of the regular DH Christmas Party attendees.

Liamo got proceedings under way as he welcomed us all to another night of laughs and did the draw for the Free Trip – and congratulations go to Mike Webb on winning.

Following a brisk trade in ticket sales by both Eddie Coxs’ and Gerry “Nobody else would do it” Nolan, next came the raffle draw. As ever Liamo really sold to all in attendance, the magnificent prizes that were there to be won... as he harassed all winners to “hurry up and pick something – it’s all only cheap shite from Aldi or Lidl anyway”. I can see a future for him in sales!!!!

Anyway, after everyone had won something (we think) including Tom Jones who is the owner of a beautiful Executive Desk Set, the food was delivered which was excellent as ever – well done to Brannigans.

Next up was the karaoke, we were treated to a number of classics from the President (who arrived late, missing the raffle and free trip draw), Craig McDonogh (giving his Robbie Williams a run), Bad News and Sandra, Dessie Doyle, Tommy “Garth” Noctor and Liamo doing “Billy Don’t be a Hero”. Finishing off the singing was the real talent among us of Brian (The Crooner) Madden.

Then it was on to the serious business of the dancing and as everyone knows the DH lads are the easiest bunch to get out onto the floor, so it came as no surprise that during the first song played there was complete mayhem on the dancefloor.

Now as we are all getting that bit older we know to exercise caution in the moves and shapes we throw, so it came as a surprise when Alan (surname withheld for identity protection AND one of the younger ones in our midst) landed on the floor beside my table screaming. At first I thought it a drink induced fall only to realise that Alan (or “our very own Andy Carrol” as he has been renamed) had dislocated his knee!

So for the very first time at a DH Christmas party we had to call for an ambulance – we all thought this might only happen as we watched a game and someone’s heart went pop!

Now the health service gets a bad rap at times over the service they provide, but in this instance I want to wholeheartedly congratulate them on their speed of arrival (4 minutes) and their professionalism in dealing with the injured party who had received First Aid assistance from Emma’s girlfriend.

Despite the advances from the young females in attendance, the ambulance crew managed to get “Our Andy” down the stairs and into the ambulance without too much fuss or fanfare (even though we gave a rousing chorus of “We can see you sneaking out”).

So with that trauma over and done with their was only one thing to do – get back on the dancefloor and the first song the DJ played was... “Lets Twist Again” – you couldn’t make it up!

Well we danced and danced until eventually it was time for Bubbles and we gave it socks! As usual the President gave his annual address which hit on the topics of him as the peoples’ choice, our new manager, the suffering we all endure with performances and the fact that we have all stuck together – overall it would bring a tear to a glass eye if we weren’t all in stitches at his deadpan delivery.

As ever there were a few songs sung regarding Roy Keane to the Cork contingent, the Chelsea fans and our own love of Ludo! Suffice to say it was a great night with Gary finding a fiver as he got off the Nitelink thus ensuring he got home for 50 cent!!

Well done to everyone involved in arranging the night, decorating the room, the Santa hats etc, the DJ, the raffle and food and everything else. It is without doubt the best Christmas Party that you will attend over the festive period.

Finally, thanks to all in Brannigans – we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!!

Special thanks to Gerry Murtagh for the report and all who sent in photos.
