Dublin Hammers - Christmas Party 2016
The Christmas Party - 10th December 2016
Yes it was that time of year once again... the Dublin Hammers Christmas Party and as usual I was met by a torrent of abuse from Mr Bah Humbug himself, Liamo as he enquired where my friend, the Rovers “#@$%” was!! There was a great attendance of the lads and most of their better halves. We had a number of visitors who travelled far for the party including Gary from Tallaght – the LUAS is still recovering!

The evening warmed up as members chatted and consumed a few beverages and before long the raffle tickets went on sale. Tom Jones went around with his glass for the lads looking to get some change out of us. A couple of the lads were confused as to why they were putting money into the glass when the strippers obviously hadn't started yet?
By the time the draw was made Liamo was in top form. This is probably the one raffle where you don’t want to win anything as Liamo dishes out the abuse on how long it takes for you to decide what you want! In the end he forces various prizes on all in attendance. My friend Jackie won 4 prizes, two of which weren’t there! I along with Gary won an umbrella (one each – and NO Gary - I’m not sharing your umbrella, ella, ella!!). The most bizarre prize of all had to be the folding snow shovel that Sandra won!

Billy Corr won the free trip and we were all (except Liamo) delighted for him. After the sambos, chicken and chips it was time for the dancing to start. Now the DH lads are the easiest bunch to get up on the floor but this year the DJ managed to clear the floor on a few occasions with his choice of sounds – one of them a non-classic OMD tune. Next year we’ll give him a list of crowd pleasers! However he redeemed himself by playing Madness, Sham 69 (now that was a blast from the past) and UB40... there's a rat in me kitchen got the place hopping!
Some of the karaoke was funny to say the least. Liamo gave us “Billy”, the President paid homage to the first Lady, who was unable to attend, with “Young Hearts” as a warm up for “Human”, Bad News sang, David gave us a Prefab Sprout classic and ode to Payet and one or two others got involved.

The Payet mask was up on the floor and seen drinking during the night and the bubbles machine was working overtime. The night flew by and following a rousing chorus of Bubbles it was time for the President’s address which as usual was spot on and was delivered in poetic style – I never got a copy of it unfortunately but it was all about good times and bad times and how regardless of the fortunes of the team us lot will still be there!
In the words of Eamo “it was a good night not a great night” mainly because Jackie didn’t get enough time on the dancefloor to break her new shoes in for the rest of the festive season dancing. DJ you have been warned!!!!

My congratulations to all those involved in organising the party, all those involved in decorating the room, those who arranged the Santa hats, Reindeer antlers, Elf hats and Christmas glasses for the tables. And finally, thanks to the staff in Brannigans – we hope you enjoyed this party as much as we always do!
