Dublin Hammers - Club Meetings 2008 - 2009

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 18th April, 2009

ASTON VILLA 1 vs WEST HAM 1.

A lively meeting, with a rush of members arriving dead on kick-off! We should have been 2 up after the first 10 minutes as chances by Stanislas were saved by Friedal. They then ran down the other end and scored from their first attack! I had to go at half time as my boy was more interested in ‘rough and tumble’ than football. Listened to the radio on the way home, and just as I pulled into the driveway at home Tristan scored the eqialiser. We then proceed to batter them for the final few minutes, unfortunately the winner did not come!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 30th Month, 2009

QUIZ NIGHT & FREE TRIP DRAW.

A lively evening started with the Free Trip Draw! This year we had 3 trips to the Liverpool home game up for grabs. The lucky winners were... G.Murtagh, D.Doyle and K.Murphy. Well done lads!

We then got down the the serious business of the quiz. Quizmaster Fran stood for no nonsense, which meant that red and yellow cards were being shown at regular intervals throughout the night... don’t think any of the 5 tables escaped uncarded! A great quiz with lots of wise cracks and laughs! Many thanks from all members to Fran for taking the time and trouble to run and come up with all the quiz questions! Great night!

Dublin Hammers Meeting -16th March, 2009

WEST HAM 0 vs WEST BROMICH ALBION 0.

A busy, lively meeting on the eve of St. Patricks Day found everyone in good form... everyone that is except the Hammers! With Cole suspended and Behrami and Collison out for some time, we huffed and puffed, magaging just 2 real goal scoring chances. Thankfully, West Brom showed why they are bottom of the table, and a draw was about right in the end.
The next meeting sees ‘El Presidente’ hosting one of his legendary Quiz Nights, with two, possibly three free trips to the Liverpool game up for grabs in the Free Trip Draw, it promises to be a good night!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 8th February, 2009

WEST HAM 0 vs MAN. UTD 1.

The busiest meeting this season! The result, no surprise really. However we took it to them, made a couple of good chances, but overall it was a game of limited openings for both teams. Giggs scored the winner half way through the second half. As the game wore on members made plenty of noise, urging the team forward, the hammers tried to pushed on, but had to be careful not to get caught on the break. Savio came on and looked way off the pace, Tristan was also introduced, but too late to make much of an impression.Thought our passing was over complicated at times and we seemed to want to pass the ball into the congested peno area when the shot looked on from outside? Still look on the bright side... at least the ‘grease-bucket’ didn’t score!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 27th January, 2009

WEST HAM 2 vs HULL CITY 0.

Happy times at the Dublin Hammers! How we didn’t win this one by 4 or 5 only the goalposts and a certain Mr Duke the Hull keeper know. I arrived late to find a nice little crowd gathered. Within minutes Di Mikey had hit the post, then Carlton ‘Silky Skills’ Cole was brought down in the penalty area, Noble’s penalty kick was saved! Then just as we were beginning to wonder if It wouldn’t be our day, Di Mikey scored at close range, after a cross or was it a shot, from ‘ole silky’. And then, a sublime move finished with Collison hitting the other post! For fecks sake! The second half began slowly with Hull doing most of the pressing. A hammers break away saw Cole put the ball into the net after a fierce shot from Di Mikey had HIT THE POST and rebounded nicely at his feet. We should have scored 3 more after that, Noble forcing the keeper to touch the ball over from a measured chip. Cole should have scored from a one-on-one, and then of course we had the obligatory miss from ‘club favourite’ Boa Morte! Still, a 2-0 win and another clean sheet... Happy times!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 24th January, 2009

HARTLEPOOL vs WEST HAM. FA Cup 4th Rd.

A few hardy souls gathered for this early kick-off. Not too many scares and a reasonably easy ride into the 5th round. Hartlepool started brightly causing a few problems for a hammers defence that included Tomkins at the expense of ‘rested’ Upson. As the half drew to a close Behrami finished nicely and shortly afterwards Noble scored from the penalty spot after we had been awarded a penalty for handball, although when we saw the replay it looked outside the box?... so be it! First name into the draw!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 18th January, 2009

WEST HAM 3 vs FULHAM 1.

A great result taking us up to 8th and prompting chants of... “Champions League, we’re hav’in a laugh!” A well attended meeting saw the Hammers start brightly and go one up when Panstil attempted to chest the ball back to the keeper, he didn’t see ‘Di Mikey’ behind him and he rounded the keeper and finished nicely. We settled back as West Ham played some nice football without really causing Fulham too many problems. Then Konchesky ran down the wing and hit an unstoppable shot past Green. A stunned West Ham didn’t get going again until the second half, but get going they did, with Cole causing all sorts of problems. Our second goal came when Cole was put through on goal only to be fouled by Konschesky. Noble duly scored from the penalty spot! The pick of the goals followed soon after when a flowing Hammers move saw Cole finish perfectly sending the meeting into uproar! A mighty rendition of ‘Bubbles’ soon followed and we all went home happy!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 20th December, 2008

WEST HAM 0 vs ASTON VILLA 1.

Another disappointing day! The meeting began slowly as with a few minutes to go before kick-off, the three members who had arrived early sat looking at each other... however a rush just minutes into the game saw the room fill up nicely! Thought we played well enough, over complicated on occasions, but we put it to them and an entertaining game ensued. We made 3 clear cut chances... missed them all... Villa scored with a deflection! Please Santa, we’ve been good boys all year, any chance of a striker who can actually put the ball into the net? Merry Christmas Everyone!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 14th December, 2008

CHELSEA 1 vs WEST HAM 1.

Much, much better... mind you, it couldn’t get much worse after that pathetic display against Tottenham last week!
A busy meeting saw the majority of members expecting a defeat, however, what we got was a blood and guts london derby in which Bellamy gave the hammers the lead with a thumping volley, sending the meeting into unexpected mayhem, only for Anelka to equalise in a backs-to-the-wall second half. Although the last 10 minutes or so was end to end, with members howling as west ham attacked, in fact in the final minutes we put together a great move, the chance fell to Cole... no goal... so, so close! As I said, much better, both the teams performance and the club turnout! The atmosphere in the last 20 minutes or so was cracking! I dread to think of the mayhem if that last chance had gone in?

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 8th December, 2008

WEST HAM 0 vs TOTTENHAM 2

Dear oh dear... what a disappointment this one was! Well, what can I say... how about... no, I won’t go there except to say I now fear for us. There were a few new faces, so a warm welcome to them. It was good hearing the stories from the ‘Christmas Party’, and well done to Eddie who won the free trip! Oh well Chelsea away on sunday... now wouldn’t that make up for this old sh*te! Anyone know that song by the Everley Brothers... dreeeeam, dream, dream dream dream!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 1st December, 2008

LIVERPOOL 0 vs WEST HAM 0.

A good meeting and a good result! Have to say really enjoyed this one, I had arrived with little hope of the Hammers getting anything from the game, but a resolute team performance, Liverpool’s woeful finishing and the non-stop wise cracks and banter from members made this ‘one to remember!’. Robert Green was the hero... again.... Bellamy hit the post in the first half, and thereafter on limited occasions we ventured towards the Liverpool goal mouth, only to be let down by a ‘play safe’ attitude? This was shown when Cole had the ball wide, and with 2 west ham players running into the box for the cross... he opted to play the ball back up the wing and then it was passed back to Green? Gerard gave a fine display of ‘break dancing’ as he went to shoot on the edge of the box, only to miss the ball and end up in an angry heap on the floor... oh how we laughed!

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 26th October, 2008

WEST HAM 0 vs ARSENAL 2.

A busy meeting, the attendance bolstered by a contingent of guests over from London! The game was far from a classic, as the hammers packed the midfield and tried to beat Arsenal by playing on the break. They defended stoutly with Robert Green pulling off a string of fine saves to keep them in it. They could have even been one up at half time when Parker sent Bellamy through, only for the striker to shoot weakly at the keeper!

As the second half wore on, the ball kept coming straight back at them and eventually the pressure paid off. However, they did need the help of Faubert who stretched to reach a cross accross the face of goal and directed the ball past Green and into the net. As we pushed on they broke free again and Adebayor sealed the win. The only beef I have is that... if you are going to play the way West Ham did, the two playing behind Cole, need to get forward alot quicker to help the lone striker. It was all very squashed with very space in midfield and few attempts on goal. Oh well, Mancs on wednesday...

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 6th October, 2008

WEST HAM 1 vs BOLTON 3.

A well attended meeting saw the Hammers first home defeat of the season. After a bright start early on Bolton packed the midfield and defence, while West Ham struggled to find a way through, limited to long shots only. Then just before half-time a punt up field was dropped by the normally impresssive Robert Green, the ball fell to Davies, who knocked it into the net. Moments later they went two up as Green made a good save only for the rebound to fall to Bolton. Two nil at half time. West Ham pushed on in the second half and after a couple of attempts, cole headed in and we all hoped for a come back. The noise levels rouse and the wisecracks increased. However it wasn’t to be as Bolton scored with a cracking free-kick just before the end. A disappointing result, but at least we played some reasonable football, and under Zola and Clarke I feel we are moving in the right direction.

Dublin Hammers Meeting - 22nd September, 2008

QUIZ NIGHT.

A top evenings entertainment was provided by the D.Hammers Commitee, with special thanks going to quiz master Fran ‘El Presidente’ Ryan, whose time and trouble taken preparing the quiz was very much appreciated!
Lots of craic as usual, with one or two of the answers, when read out, reducing the assembled members into howls of laughter! The winners were table one, Jim, Gary and Paul, congrats to you, as for the Simpsons, well... table 3, you know how you are!
